Traveling to Sri Lanka is a relatively easy task. It isn’t without its challenges. Chaotic and crowded, with buses that snake on clogged roads, in which lanes are merely suggestions, and trains filled to the gills of people snatching up the edges (which actually can be a lot of enjoyable). However, English is a popular language, and when you’re familiar with all the noise, it’s easy to navigate.
What Are The Must-See Places In Sri Lanka?
These are our top must-see destinations to visit in Sri Lanka:
The beaches of the South Coast: Unawatuna, Mirissa and Tangalla. They are stunning golden soft beaches you could ever imagine! Out of the three beaches, we enjoyed Tangalla Beach the most.
Galle: Visit the charming and beautiful old fort city of Galle with a European feel to it.
Yala National Park: Going to Safari in Sri Lanka to see wild animals like crocodiles, elephants, leopards and lots of colorful birds is an absolute must!
Ella: Visit the tiny and quiet mountain village of Ella which is surrounded by lush green tea plantations for as far as your eyes will allow.
Polonnaruwa: The Polonnaruwa region, which we cycled around old ruins from the previous capital, Polonnaruwa, was the highlight of our visit to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Must-Dos: What Should You Do?
A hike: in the breathtaking mountains around Ella, Some of them higher than 2000m, is an absolute must!
Climbing: up the Sigiriya Lion Rock, which it is believed that the royal palace used, is definitely an absolute must!
Surfing: is excellent throughout Sri Lanka! Along the east coast and west coast, as well as on the south coast and east coast, the waves are perfect for surfing.
Dolphin Safari: If you’re living in Sri Lanka, going on the dolphin-watching tour is practically obligatory.
Kite Surfing: We went Kitesurfing within Kalpitiya (on the North West coast), and it was amazing!
The dolphin safari didn’t take a whale tour since we’ve seen so many whales in Norway. However, Sri Lanka is one of the most accurate destinations on earth to observe large whales.
Diving/ snorkeling: Diving and snorkeling are amazing and are a must in Sri Lanka. We took a snorkeling trip in the vicinity of Kalpitiya and absolutely enjoyed it! The coral reefs are the biggest in the world and are with a variety of colorful fish.
Rice and curry is a must. The most popular national dish, Rice and Curry, is a dish you can find everywhere, and it’s super delicious! Delicious and full of spice! It is a must for any foodie! Sri Lankans know how to utilize spices.
Tea Plantations: Walking through the tea plantations and then visiting a tea factory is something you must do. It will make you appreciate the tea and your next glass of Sri Lankan tea.
Train ride – Enjoy an excursion on a train across the Hill Country, possibly the most breathtaking train journey on the planet?
